Welcome to The Overture Network

The Overture Network encourages Guide and Scout associations in Europe to open up the associations to people originating from ethnic and other minority groups and Guides and Scouts with disabilities and special needs. The participation of children and youths with different backgrounds is based on the principle that Guiding and Scouting is open to all people.

INTRODUCTION STEERINGGROUP

The Steering Group of the Overture Network consists of its chairperson and his/her deputy, its secretary and webmaster. Candidates for these volunteer positions are proposed by participants from among themselves. They are elected by participants at their regular meetings for a 2 years' mandate. In view of continuity there is a rotating system by which the chairperson ends their mandate in one year, the deputy chairperson in the other year. The fifth member of the stering group looks after external resources/contacts.

The Steering Group is to bring continuity as well as dynamics in the work of the Network. Its tasks and responsibilities include:

  • finding a host association for the Network meetings
  • preparing the programme and agenda for these meetings taking account of the evaluation of past meetings and the programme proposals made by participants, whilst encouraging the host association(s) to give a major input to it
  • involving participants in the preparation and execution of the programmes
  • communicating with the host association that is responsible for the logistics of the meeting
  • giving the appriopriate follow-up to decisions made at Network meetings
  • proposing new initiatives to these meetings
  • maintaining a good working relationship with WAGGGS and WOSM
  • maintaining and updating the website
