Welcome to The Overture Network

The Overture Network encourages Guide and Scout associations in Europe to open up the associations to people originating from ethnic and other minority groups and Guides and Scouts with disabilities and special needs. The participation of children and youths with different backgrounds is based on the principle that Guiding and Scouting is open to all people.

Invitation to Overture Network meeting in Belfast

15th – 17th October, 2010.

 

CGI look forward to welcoming you to the Overture Network meeting in Belfast. This will be an opportunity to meet like minded Guides and Scouts working in the area of diversity, disability and social inclusion.

The venue;

Accommodation will be on a Bed and Breakfast basis in a budget hotel in the city centre, approx 20 minutes walk from the meeting venue.  The meeting will take place in CGI Northern Region headquarters, this is located in a residential area of West Belfast, just off the falls Road.  The premises are easily reached by local bus and Black taxi service from the city centre.

Costs;

The fee for the meeting is 90 euro plus your own flight. If funding is secured from the Youth In Action Programme we hope be in a position to refund travel costs up to a maximum of 70% and some of the fees.

Travelling to Belfast:

There are a number of options for Flights to Belfast

Belfast International Airport is Located 10 miles from Belfast City Centre , the airport is served by the Number 300 bus to Europa Bus Station is the City Centre. Travel time is approx 30 minutes

Easyjet and Aerlingus have a number of flights from European Cities.

George Best Belfast City Airport is located just outside the city centre, there are limited direct flights from European cities , however it maybe possible to take a connecting flight.  The airport is served by the number 600 bus to Europa Bus Station.  Travel time is approx 15 minutes

Another Option is arriving at Dublin Airport

There are no flight options between the cities but a bus leaves Dublin airport, stop number 8 every hour at 20 minutes past the hour, 24 hours per day, the travel time is approx 2hrs 30 min.

Program

During the weekend we will be having a lot of informal exchanges, which are the strength of the network.  About two weeks before the meeting all registered participants will get a detailed program with a schedule which will include:

  • A session to help you share your current or future projects.
  • Workshops and seminars on different topics relating to diversity and working with disabilities.
  • Roundtables to encourage open debating on the issues of Diversity, Disability, Cultural awareness and Membership growth among minorities.
  • Short cultural visit in Belfast city and evening of Irish entertainment.

Your Project:

There will be opportunities during the weekend for participants to do short presentations (5-15 minutes) on their work in the field of Diversity.  Please let us know if you wish to avail of this opportunity.  There will also be time for participants to run one or two workshops (1 to 1.5 hours) please let us know before 25th September if you wish to present a workshop.  We will try to accommodate as many as possible.  There will be display space available, so please bring any posters, brochures, photographs or flyers to wish to share.

Language:

The main language of the meeting will be English.

The official closing date for registration will be the 25th September 2010.  Applications after this deadline may not be accommodated so please check with the Hosting team before booking flights if your registration is late.
